As I mentioned in my last post, if you want to succeed, you have to put in the time. You may also need additional training and support. These factors can strengthen you and provide a firm foundation. You also need to boost your confidence and faith. Why?
If you know in your heart of hearts that this is what you want to do, then you’re going to have to fight for it.
You need to be prepared for all the nay-sayers, the haters, and things that may go wrong, from website issues to missed opportunities, to unforeseen expenses. This is why 34% of small businesses fail within two years and 50% will not be around in five years.
When it feels like you’re not making progress, it can be a real blow to your ego and fear and panic may begin to creep in. A spiritual battle may take hold as well. In a recent survey of 242 entrepreneurs, 49% reported having a mental health condition. Depression was the No. 1 reported condition among them and was present in 30% of all entrepreneurs, followed by ADHD (29%) and anxiety problems (27%).
I didn’t need a survey to tell me these facts. As I discovered in my 20 years of research and case studies, there is a very high incidence of depression within the gifted, creative, and talented populations (both kids and adults). I’ve not only helped many others, I’ve been down this road myself. After an accident in 2011, I lost nearly everything, including the ability to drum and move without pain. For someone who loves drumming and wanted to add it to her business model, this was not a good thing!
Depression eventually set in. I hid it well and was too proud to ask for help. One day I decided to pick up my sword and fight. I called in heavenly reinforcements. If you’re not a spiritual person, you may not believe what transpired but it was truly miraculous.
I held on tight as I felt the heat of the dragon’s flames. I clenched my sword and decided there was no backing down. I had already overcome a lot in my life and survived. It was time to face my fears and rise up. It was time to heal and help others do the same.
It was time to take a stand for my crazy idea of combining coaching, drumming, and healing. Life’s short. I didn’t want to just move onto the next stage of my life. I wanted to rock it! The dragon retreated. I was healed. And I was ready.
When you get knocked down, you have a choice. You can either stay down- or you can choose to get up!
Aren’t your dreams worth defending? If not now, when?
