Happy New Year! Forget boring resolutions like losing 10 pounds, eating healthier, yada, yada, yada. What are you going to do to step things up and play a bigger game?
2017 was one heck of a year! It was also one that started some firestorms. So here’s my question: When are you going to start your own? When are you going to put your stake in the ground and say “This is the year I’m finally going to…”
• Write that book
• Start a new business or career
• Solidify my brand
• Have the guts to take the stage (either for speaking or performing)
• Get high-paying clients
• Pay off credit card debt so I can finally breathe
• Move my passion and my mission forward
Confidence and Clarity
Social media has both benefits and drawbacks. Besides being a colossal time sucker, it has a way of making people feel inadequate and can erode their confidence. Consequently, I’m seeing an increase in depression among creatives and entrepreneurs. They feel that they’re not living up to their potential or that they missed God’s calling for their lives. So here are some tips:
Tip #1: Shut off the noise! Unplug. Go into nature or, if it’s too cold, go to a quiet place and just clear your head for a minute. Next, take out a sheet of paper or a journal and put the tip of your pen or pencil on the paper. Start doodling or writing. See what comes out. God only speaks to me when I’m quiet.
Tip #2: Connect with positive, encouraging people! You need to find encouragers and supporters who get you, are aligned with your mission and your goals, and have your best interests at heart. You want people who will boost you up and brainstorm with you.
Tip #3: Start with one main goal! Creative types and entrepreneurs tend to have way too many things that they want to accomplish. Pare it down. If you have a bunch of stuff, what’s the common theme? That can even be your word of the year.
When you were a kid, did you ever take out a magnifying glass outside and hold it over a piece of paper? What happens is that a beam of light from the sun goes through the magnifying glass and sparks a flame. That’s the power of laser focusing.
If you keep moving the magnifying glass back and forth, it won’t work. You have to hold it in one place, and stay still – and wait! That’s also exactly how God works.
I’ve been spending time listening, asking questions, and seeking God’s will. I have some gifts I haven’t fully released yet. This is way more than just speaking or drumming, so I have to find the right audience. Stay tuned!
